Everybody hates Litter Polmont residents have had a Landfill Site on
its doorstep for many years; it can see the flaring from Grangemouth where Ineos is still
one of the biggest producers of plastic in the UK. The Scottish Government has banned the
use of many single use plastic items, and everyone is encouraged to have a water bottle and
take a keep cup for their takeaway coffee, yet litter is one of the biggest complaints in local
communities and plastic pollutes our local water courses. The River Forth coast at Bo’ness
has millions of nurdles, raw plastic pellets, produced at Grangemouth and plastic waste
along the tideline.

After a profound experience on the Lofoten Islands, filmmaker Steffen Krones from
Dresden begins to build buoys to track the paths of plastic waste through German and
international waters. In the process, he meets scientists and companions who support him
in his project. Steffen travels north with the buoys – a road trip that opens his eyes to the
condition of our waters and the need for substantial change.
