Trek or Tread Step Count Challenge: Walking through the October Holidays

The October break ‘Trek or Tread’ step count challenge came to an end on Sunday 27th of October. The two-week long competition was a huge success with nearly 100 pupils, staff and families from five of our eight Active Travel Hub schools tracking their daily steps. Participants travelled far and wide in search of the best walking routes, with New York and Berlin only two of the many holiday destinations. Other participants stayed closer to their schools, utilising FEL local safe route recommendations. It was great to see everyone getting outdoors and enjoying exploring their local community and beyond.
The step count challenge competition had participants compete in teams of up to five people, tracking their daily steps in an attempt to win some amazing prizes. The team with the most steps from each school received a prize, with the winning team across all eight Active Travel Hub schools winning a trophy! Prizes were also given for the best team name, best walking photo and the team with the most improved steps from the first to second week. With lots of prizes to be won, teams were very engaged and consistently tracked their steps throughout the entire two-week competition. Below are all the winners of the different competitions:

Well done to everybody that took part in the step count challenge this year, and to all our prize winners! The engagement in the competition was amazing, and we hope it has encouraged everyone to get outdoors and continue to explore the world. The Active Travel project officers within each school will continue to support and encourage pupils, staff and parents to travel sustainably by developing confidence and promoting safe and accessible local routes. Even though the competition has ended, please continue to walk, wheel, cycle or scoot in your local communities to benefit your own health and the environment.
