Today we had our first Climate Leaders meeting at the Book Nook Stirling, which united an encouraging array of community members, activists and young people, all dedicated to creating a more sustainable future. Our intern attended as well as other staff members and brought a range of important insights into the discussions regarding education, empowerment, and the increasing significance of tackling climate anxiety.

The session struck a thoughtful balance between practical action and emotional reflection. Many attendees observed that although individuals are more conscious of the climate emergency than ever, they frequently feel overwhelmed, ignored, or uncertain about how to start. Here is where education holds significant importance.

Our Climate Leaders emphasised the importance of community – focused education initiatives that not only present statistics but also clarify the implications of climate change for daily life in Stirling. They shared examples of workshops, collaboration and community events that are already helping residents build confidence in their climate literacy.

“I was impressed by the straightforwardness with which individuals discussed climate anxiety. The emotional aspect of the climate crisis is often ignored, but it impacts individuals of all ages. Individuals conveyed emotions of anxiety, frustration and uncertainty regarding what lies ahead”. Michaela – our campaigns intern from Forth Valley Youth Local Action Group (YLAG)

As the meeting concluded, there was a collective feeling of hopefulness. Although the climate crisis is intimidating, today proved that education led by the community and candid discussions about climate anxiety can assist individuals in feeling.

The Book Nook proved once again that powerful conversations don’t need large venues or grand stages. Sometimes, the most meaningful progress starts in a small room filled with books, ideas, and people who care.

This year we are working with a cohort of 8 Climate Leaders linked with our local community groups and organisations with an aim to boost capacity, network and enhance learning in climate action. We’re also working with our Community Local Led Development team to support two interns from our Forth Valley Youth Local Action Group.
