Polmont Bike Festival

Polmont Community Hub hosted our first bike festival on Saturday 7th December and it was a great success! We had various short films including ‘The Ridge’ by Danny Macaskill and ‘Life Cycles’ by Derek Frankowski, promoting cycling and active travel showing all day and our experienced mechanics running a busy Dr. Bike session. The aim of the event was to bring the community closer together whilst having fun and doing healthy activities.

Jean Weir was inspired by the event. She said: “This event has motivated and inspired me to get back on my bike and to start using it more often.”

Our pedal-powered generator bike was used to power our sLEDgehammer tower and was a fun challenge for participants who received a set of free lights if they managed to power the whole screen.

The smoothie bike was very popular with all kinds of refreshing drinks being made. One attendee was impressed by the smoothie bike, and they said: “It’s amazing how you can make a smoothie with a bike! It’s interesting to see how much power is needed to make a smoothie.”

We had some bikes from our e-bike library at the event for people to try out. We had a Tern cargo bike with two child seats attached. Kai had a go on one of our e-bikes and he said: “This bike would make it a lot easier to cycle with children!”

One attendee was explaining how having her e-bike has allowed her to enjoy cycling again as she is able to keep up with the rest of her family. She said: “My e-bike has allowed me to enjoy cycling with my husband again.”

A big thank you to those who came and to everyone who helped to make the event possible!
