Our Winter Walking Step Count Challenge concluded last month with a combined total of 165,113,704 steps, equivalent to 73,576 miles or more than two trips around the equator. 525 staff took part in challenge across 114 teams, from NHSFV workplaces, Health and Social Care Partnerships, third sector groups, carers and volunteers.

This annual challenge is run in partnership with NHS Forth Valley, the Clackmannanshire & Stirling Health & Social Care Partnership, Falkirk Health and Social Care Partnership, and Paths For All.

1st place team – The Scrambled Legs from NHS FV Minor Injuries Unit, Stirling Community Hospital with a phenomenal 4,020,879 steps

2nd place team – The Estates Walkaholics from NHS FV Estates dept, Stirling with a whopping 3,561,772 steps

3rd place team – Ochi’ll just be a minute from Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration, SCRA Digital Team, Stirling with an incredible 3,436,500 steps

The photo competition was won by Sons Of Pablo. We enjoyed your creativity in adapting your team photo to include a member who couldn’t be there in person. Each team member will receive a £20 love2shop voucher!

The challenge is a way to encourage walking to work during what can be wet, cold months. Walking and cycling to work is fantastic for not only physical health but also emotional wellbeing, our bank accounts, and it’s also great for the environment too.

Participants were also encouraged to convert miles from swimming and cycling into steps to add to their team’s totals. Additionally, many of the participants also used Treekly, the app that converts steps walked into trees to be planted in the real world. We are awaiting feedback on how many trees will be planted as a result of this app use, but we know already that this challenge has been a net positive overall!

Try the Treekly app for yourself and see how many trees you can plant.
