Keeping Our Ebikes Rolling: Introducing a New Pricing Model to Support Access and Sustainability

Over the past few years, our ebike loan scheme has helped hundreds of people get around more affordably, more sustainably, and with a bit more joy. Whether it’s for commuting, errands, or simply enjoying the ride, our bikes have been there to support cleaner travel and a stronger sense of connection to our community.
But like many charities this year, we’re facing a shortfall in funding. Maintaining a fleet of ebikes – keeping them safe, roadworthy, and available to as many people as possible – comes at a cost. To keep the wheels turning, we’re introducing a new pricing model that will allow us to continue offering this much-loved service while covering the core expenses of repairs, servicing, and battery maintenance.
Here’s what’s changing:
Starting July 21st we’ll now be charging for ebike loans.
For visitors and tourists, or those looking for short-term access, our ebikes will be available at a daily rate of £12.00, which includes helmet hire. It’s still one of the cheapest and most eco-friendly ways to explore the area, and every hire helps fund access for someone else.
For longer-term users, we’re introducing a monthly subscription model: perfect for people who don’t want to commit to buying an ebike, but want the convenience of having one for weeks or months at a time. Subscription users will benefit from priority support, included maintenance, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing we’ll handle repairs. Pricing for this option will start from £80.00 a month.
At the heart of our scheme is a continued commitment to equity and access. We’ll still be offering discretionary loans on a sliding scale to local community members who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access an ebike. If that’s you, or someone you know, please get in touch. We’re here to help, not to exclude.
This change wasn’t an easy decision. But we believe this model strikes the right balance between sustainability and affordability. By charging a modest fee where we can, we hope to keep the scheme running long into the future, expanding access to active travel while keeping our bikes in safe, road-ready condition.
Every pound we collect will go directly toward running costs. If we can generate enough to cover repairs, we’ll be able to keep providing bikes available to everyone at a relatively low cost. It’s a small shift that we believe will make a big difference.
We’re hugely grateful to everyone who’s supported the scheme so far, and we’re excited to keep growing it. Any rentals booked for collection after July 21st will still be honoured. Stay tuned for updates on pricing and new subscription options soon.
And as always: if you’re curious about trying an ebike, just ask. We’re here to get you rolling.
