Growing Our Thermal Imaging Service with the Help of Climate Action Callander

At FEL Scotland, we’re always looking for ways to make energy advice more accessible, practical, and genuinely helpful for people across Forth Valley. And sometimes the best way to do that is by teaming up with the people who know their communities best; local volunteers.

That’s why we’re excited to share that we’ve launched a new volunteer partnership with Climate Action Callender to support our thermal imaging service. If you’ve ever wondered where your home might be losing heat, or why some rooms stay colder than others, thermal imaging can be a game-changer. With a quick scan using a small infrared camera, we can show householders exactly where heat is escaping and what they can do to fix it.

The service has become really poplar, especially as more people look for ways to stay warm without spending more money on bills than they need to. To keep up with demand, and to make sure we can reach as many households as possible, we’ve have teamed up with the volunteers from Climate Action Callander to help deliver the service.

The volunteers have been brilliant. They’ve taken part in hands-on training to learn how to use the cameras, and practised interpreting the images in a clear and friendly way. They’ll be helping with everything from carrying out the scans to chatting with residents, putting together simple follow-up notes, and signposting people to further support from FEL Scotland when needed.

But what makes this partnership special isn’t just the extra pair of hands; it’s the extra connection. People really value having someone local turn up at their door, ready to listen and offer practical advice. Volunteers bring warmth, reassurance, and that neighbourly touch, making the whole experience feel much more personal.

By expanding the service with volunteer support, we can reduce waiting times, visit more communities (including the ones that can be hard for small teams to reach), and make sure people get the help they need at the right time. It also means we’re building local skills and confidence – which is a huge part of what FEL Scotland is all about, ensuring that practical energy support isn’t something delivered to communities, but something delivered with them.

We’re incredibly grateful to the volunteers who’ve stepped forward. Their enthusiasm and commitment genuinely make a difference; not just to our service, but to every household they support.

If you’d like to arrange a visit for your home or community group, find out how the service works, or even explore how this could work for your community, we’d love to hear from you.
