Bike to School Week Returns to Our Active Travel Hub Schools
We are excited to share that Bike to School Week is back this September and will be running across all nine of our Active Travel Hub schools. From Monday 22nd to Friday 26th of September, pupils will be encouraged to get on their bikes, join in with challenges, and celebrate the benefits of Active Travel.
While the National Cycle to School Week is scheduled for mid-October, when Scottish schools are on holiday, we have chosen to give the pupils at our school hubs the chance to take part during a more appropriate week. With the seasons turning, this is the perfect time to get out on two wheels.
In recent years Bike to School Week has become one of the highlights of the school calendar. Pupils have taken part in group rides, learned new skills, and helped create a stronger cycling culture in their schools and local communities. Each year more young people have chosen to ride to school and record their miles on Strava. The positive feedback from pupils, parents, and teachers has shown how important these weeks are in supporting healthier and more sustainable travel habits.
This year is set to be even bigger and better. Pupils will be able to join their school Strava club, creating a shared cycling community. By recording their rides throughout the week they will also have the chance to win prizes. Alongside this, pupils will be invited to take part in the bike photo challenge by sending their best cycling photo from the week to schools@felscotland.org. The top photo will win a £20 voucher, encouraging pupils to get creative and capture their cycling adventures.
Bike to School Week is about more than just prizes, it is about promoting wellbeing, helping young people feel confident travelling actively, and building skills that will last a lifetime. Riding to school gives pupils the chance to spend time outdoors, reduce congestion, and contribute to a healthier environment for everyone. We are looking forward to seeing our school communities come together once again to make this another memorable Bike to School Week. Whether pupils are cycling for the first time or are already regular riders, there will be a place for everyone in this year’s celebrations. Bike to School Week, running from 22nd to 26th September, promises to be another inspiring celebration of cycling across our Active Travel Hub schools.
