£375,000 for Forth Valley Climate Action Hub in 2025/26

The Scottish Government has announced £6million further funding for the Climate Action Hub network.

Community projects across Scotland aimed at improving lives through local climate action are set to benefit from a share of £6 million Scottish Government funding.

Scotland’s nationwide network for Climate Action Hubs encourage and support climate action unique to their own areas from flood mitigation, repair shops and local energy generation to food growing and tree planting.

At Forth Valley Climate Action Hub, operated by FEL Scotland, we’ve been at the forefront of this movement, empowering communities across Forth Valley and Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park to take meaningful climate action. We are delighted to have been awarded a further £375,000 this year to continue our work.

Empowering Communities Through Funding and Support

In 2023, FEL Scotland secured £375,000 from the Scottish Government to deliver the Climate Action Hub strategy in our region. This funding has enabled us to provide seed grants, expert advice, and specialist training to community groups, fostering a network of local initiatives aimed at building climate resilience and advancing towards net-zero emissions.

Our efforts have already seen the distribution of nearly £70,000 in seed grants to kickstart various community-led projects. These initiatives range from natural flood management and river restoration to biodiversity enhancement and sustainable agriculture, all contributing to a more resilient and environmentally conscious Forth Valley.

Launching the Climate Action Hub

In April 2024, we officially launched the Forth Valley Climate Action Hub with a series of events across the region, including Falkirk, Stirling, Clackmannanshire, and Callander. These events served as platforms for community engagement, featuring speakers from local organizations, workshops on sustainable practices, and opportunities for residents to learn about and get involved in climate action initiatives.

Celebrating Local Climate Action

To showcase and celebrate the incredible work being done, we hosted the “Forth Valley Celebrates Climate Action” event in February 2025. This gathering brought together individuals, communities, and organizations to share inspiring talks, participate in creative nature-based workshops, and connect over sustainable local food. Highlights included a keynote speech by Mairi Breslin of Radical Weavers and interactive sessions led by CICs like Movement in Thyme and Green Aspirations.

Showcasing Community Impact Through Case Study Videos

To highlight the tangible outcomes of our initiatives, FEL Scotland has produced a series of case study videos that showcase the remarkable efforts of local organizations funded through the Forth Valley Climate Action Hub. These stories exemplify how community-driven projects can lead to meaningful environmental change.

One such example is Bannockburn House, a historic estate where volunteers have integrated sustainability into heritage conservation. Their initiatives include installing low-carbon heating systems and developing green action plans for events, transforming the estate into a model for sustainable heritage sites.

At Hawkhill Community Centre, the focus has been on enhancing biodiversity and community engagement. With support from FEL Scotland, they have developed green spaces that serve both ecological and social functions, fostering a deeper connection between residents and their environment.

Green Aspirations has taken a hands-on approach to environmental education, offering workshops on sustainable practices such as traditional woodland crafts and conservation techniques. Their programs not only teach valuable skills but also promote a culture of sustainability within the community.

These case studies underscore the power of local action in addressing global environmental challenges. By supporting and sharing these stories, FEL Scotland aims to inspire other communities to embark on their own sustainability journeys.

Looking Ahead

As we continue to build on this momentum, our focus remains on supporting and amplifying community-led climate action. Through ongoing funding opportunities, educational events, and collaborative projects, we aim to foster a resilient and sustainable future for all communities in the Forth Valley region.
