Local adventures with an FEL e-bike

In our ten Active Travel School Hubs across the Forth Valley, we’re not only helping pupils get involved in active travel, but staff members, family members, and the wider community too!

At Falkirk High School, Aaron Fraser is a teacher who heard about our bike library through our Falkirk School Hub. Read on below to hear what adventures Aaron has been on since borrowing one of our bikes:

A month before the summer break, Julie – the FEL Active Travel Officer within Falkirk High School – approached me asking if I was aware of the FEL Bike Library. I had no idea what a bike library was, but soon found out that I could get access to a range of e-bikes. I had been curious for a while about getting an e-bike, and luckily Julie let me know about the scheme and helped set me up with a folding e-bike called Ruaridh.

Ruaridh and I quickly became firm friends, and he has since changed my life for the better. After moving to Falkirk in February, I was keen to see more of the area, and the e-bike gave me a whole new world of adventure for the summer break. We started with Callander Park, then kept going further and further afield; Avon Aqueduct, The Kelpies, then an adventure up Cycle Route 76 up to Bo’Ness to see the steam trains and have lunch by the ocean.

I can’t thank FEL and Julie enough for letting me try out having an e-bike, and for the adventures Ruaridh and I have been, and will continue, to go on!
