SUMMARY:Exhibition - Ted Leeming: Our Place in Time at Macrobert Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:Macrobert Arts Centre are hosting exhibitions and film screenings to compliment the theme of Biodiversity and ongoing climate change film series. This exhibition is part of Stirling Photography Festival \nTed’s practice engages with climate change\, biodiversity\, place and the cultural narratives driving our twin existential emergencies — with the role of arts and photography in responding to them. Based in Galloway\, Ted is drawn to immersive\, low-impact projects and place-based explorations of environmental and social relevance\, delivered through research\, engagement\, and collaborative\, audience specific outcomes. Through his work he aims to start conversations\, shift behaviors\, and influence policy. Photography — traditional\, abstract\, and alternative — sits at the core of his practice\, increasingly augmented by multi-sensory approaches\, AV\, mapping\, illustration\, and accompanying words. \nExhibitions are not ticketed and are usually available to view during venue opening hours \nOpening Hours \nMon – Fri – 10am – 10pm\nSat & Sun – 11am – 10pm \nPlease note that on occasion these times can change. Please check our website and socials on the day for any updates. \nVisitors are advised to check our Visit the Venue page for information about parking and blue badge spaces. You can also check out map of campus to get your bearings. Please note that parking is free for the first 2 hours. Charges apply thereafter. For the month of August\, nature and biodiversity projects across the region will be celebrated. \nHere in Fintry\, we’d like to invite you to take part in our citizen science ‘Nature Needs You’ nature survey! This can be the plants\, trees and flowers; birds\, butterflies and bees; ants\, spiders and woodlice; squirrels\, hedgehogs or frogs! Anything from the natural world\, jot it down on your FDT survey sheet. \n– Once completed\, please send back your form to us in our letterbox in the Sports Club\, or you can scan and email the form to admin@fintrydt.org.uk. \nEveryone who returns a form by Monday 31st August will be automatically entered into our prize draw! SUMMARY:Exhibition - Selina Wagner: The Day We Cleaned the Sky
DESCRIPTION:The Day We Cleaned the Sky – Selina Wagner \nExhibition opens between: Saturday 8 August 2026 10:00 –\nMonday 31 August 2026 17:00 \nVenue: Made in Stirling\, 44 King Street\, Stirling\, Scotland. FK8 1AY \nJoin us to celebrate the exhibition on Friday 21st August\, 6pm – 9pm\, drinks Reception. \nWhat if the future remembered us differently? \nStep inside and enter a story told from the future. This installation expands on an animated folktale\, developed in response to working with Dunblane Primary school children and learning about the importance of Greenhous Gas removal: imagining a time 500 years from now when people look back and celebrate the moment humanity restored balance. \nThe story revolves around the idea that representatives from various ecosystems of our planet – forest\, sea and bogland – come together to remove carbon from the atmosphere. They do so by illustrating some of the ways scientists are exploring – planting more forests\, restoring peatlands and trapping carbon rich seaweed deep underground. \nAnd in this journey to a clean sky\, the children from the modern world witness the compassion needed for the planet. They must show love and care to the living things around them – the swifts – to restore harmony.  Swifts live almost entirely in the sky and so in this tale\, they are the ambassadors – helping to pull carbon down and cleaning up. \nThe exhibition will show the animation with its beautiful original soundtrack by David Ford\, as well as development paintings that explore the creatures and habitats of the story. \nThe work of the school children will also be on display. They explored their own ideas of how they might clean the sky\, from solar powered hoovers to forests planted in the clouds\, and how they might celebrate ‘Clean Sky Day’ in the future. \nThe work draws on folktale traditions from around the world\, but instead of retelling the past\, it imagines a future memory. Through workshops with young people\, the project asks what greenhouse gas removal might mean to the next generation — not just as a scientific concept\, but as part of everyday life and storytelling. \n “Children don’t just inherit the future — they help shape how we imagine it.” \nThe project connects to greenhouse gas removal as one of many ways we might respond to climate change\, while foregrounding the importance of creativity and intergenerational thinking. \nFor more details about the artist and creative workshops please visit the Made in Stirling website: \nEVENT SPACE | THE DAY WE CLEANED THE SKIES — Made in Stirling \nJoin us this August for the first Forth Valley Biodiversity Festival\, a month-long programme celebrating the biodiversity close to our homes. SUMMARY:Film Screening - The North Drift with Polmont Community Hub
DESCRIPTION:Film Screening of The North Drift with Polmont Community Hub \nFilms of Hope\, Inspiration and Action\nSunday 30th August 2025\, 6.30-9pm\nPolmont Community Hub\, FK2 0PZ \nPlease reach out to contact.polmontcommunityhub@gmail.com if you would like to book a free space or for any more information. \nAccessibility information: Accessible toilets\, wheelchair accessible\, accessible parking\, access to public transport\, quiet spaces available\, all films include multiple languages and are subtitled. \nEverybody hates Litter Polmont residents have had a Landfill Site on\nits doorstep for many years; it can see the flaring from Grangemouth where Ineos is still\none of the biggest producers of plastic in the UK. The Scottish Government has banned the\nuse of many single use plastic items\, and everyone is encouraged to have a water bottle and\ntake a keep cup for their takeaway coffee\, yet litter is one of the biggest complaints in local\ncommunities and plastic pollutes our local water courses. The River Forth coast at Bo’ness\nhas millions of nurdles\, raw plastic pellets\, produced at Grangemouth and plastic waste\nalong the tideline. \nAfter a profound experience on the Lofoten Islands\, filmmaker Steffen Krones from\nDresden begins to build buoys to track the paths of plastic waste through German and\ninternational waters. In the process\, he meets scientists and companions who support him\nin his project. Steffen travels north with the buoys – a road trip that opens his eyes to the\ncondition of our waters and the need for substantial change. \n \nJoin us this August for the first Forth Valley Biodiversity Festival\, a month-long programme celebrating the biodiversity close to our homes. SUMMARY:Forth Valley Biodiversity Book Club - A Sky Full of Kites
DESCRIPTION:Join us for one or both of our friendly online book club discussions. No expertise is needed! Just read the book (or as much as you can!)\, bring a cuppa\, and enjoy an engaging conversation with fellow readers. \n\n31 August\, 7.00–8.00pm – A Sky Full of Kites by Tom Bowser\n7 September\, 7.00–8.30pm – The Overstory by Richard Powers\n\nA Sky Full of Kites by Tom Bowser\, Monday 31 August | 7.00–8.00pm \nShortlisted for the Saltire Society First Book of the Year Award \nRed kites were once Britain’s most common bird of prey. By the early 1900s they’d been wiped out in Scotland and England following centuries of ruthless persecution. When some reintroduced kites began roosting on their 1\,400-acre farm at Argaty in Perthshire\, Tom Bowser’s parents\, Lynn and Niall\, decided to turn their estate into a safe haven. They began feeding the birds and invited the world to come and see them\, learn about them and fall in love with them. \nA Sky Full of Kites is the story of the Argaty Red Kite project\, and the re-establishing of these magnificent raptors to Scotland\, but it is also much more than that. Ill at ease with the traditional rural values of livestock farming\, Lynn and Niall’s son Tom\, who returned to work on the farm after a career in journalism\, reveals his passion for nature and his desire to dedicate his family’s land to conservation. \nYou can visit this project which is local to Forth Valley\, based just outside of the village of Doune. Argaty Red Kites\n \nThe Overstory by Richard Powers\, Monday 7 September | 7.00–8.30pm \nWinner of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize\, The Overstory by Richard Powers is an epic\, sweeping environmental novel that reimagines humanity’s relationship with the natural world. It follows nine distinct\, seemingly unrelated strangers whose unique life experiences draw them into a desperate\, last-stand effort to save ancient virgin forests in the Pacific Northwest \nA thought-provoking novel celebrating trees\, interconnectedness and the natural world. \nPlease select the ticket for the session(s) you’d like to attend via this Eventbrite link: Forth Valley Biodiversity Book Club \nA link to join online will be sent to you on the day\, we will only be able to admit people who have registered on Eventbrite\, but feel free to be in touch with us via email if preferred and if we can support any accessibility requirements.
